The Race X Lite Aero TT — or what we refer to as the world's fastest tire — is just that. We set out to create a tire that excelled in aerodynamics and in rolling resistance. Like all of our tires, we put this tire up against the competition and it did not disappoint.

Keith Bontrager and Lance Armstrong have a bit in common. When something doesn't cut it, neither will hesitate to tell you. And that is a really good thing—especially when it comes to high end racing parts. Because, as things get lighter, there is less margin for error. Less weight means there is less material to cover design flaws, suboptimal manufacturing techniques, or material deficiencies.

Outfitted with an arsenal of Bontrager components, including Race XXX Lite wheels, a Race XXX Lite carbon handlebar and a Race X Lite stem, Astana Cycling Team's Alberto Contador successfully defended his pink jersey in the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia, a 12.9 km individual mountain time trial to Plan de Corones (Kronplatz). With the win, the pink jersey is more secure on Contador's shoulders, who claimed the Maglia Rosa after Stage 15's Marmolada climb. In the overall classification he now leads 2nd-place Riccardo Ricco by 41 seconds and 3rd-place Gilberto Simoni by 1:21.

The aerodynamics of any structure are greatly affected by the angle of the wind. While most wheel manufacturers design their wheels to be optimal in a direct headwind, Keith Bontrager and Steve Hed jointly designed the Aeolus wheelsystem to provide the lowest drag results in the most common wind conditions; a slight cross headwind of 10-15%. The result is the ultimate choice for anyone who wants to maximize their technical advantage in Triathlon, Time Trial and Road Racing events where aerodynamics are crucial to success.

OCLV stands for Optimum Compaction, Low Void, the world's most advanced carbon fiber production process. Optimum Compaction squeezes air pockets between carbon fibers out, resulting in extremely Low Voids, the source of weakness and fatigue failures. There are a lot of other methods for manufactureing carbon fiber parts, but none can rival the superior strength to weight ratio of OCLV. It's a patented process so exclusive that it's utilized in only one factory in the world. And it's the only factory that Bontrager trusts to build the XXX Lite carbon rim, the foundation of Bontrager's carbon wheel line-up.

Tubeless Ready (TR) technology is the latest innovation from Keith Bontrager's garage. Designed to improve upon existing tubeless systems, Tubeless Ready tires offer a secure bead to rim interface like standard tubeless tires, but are 100 grams lighter per tire. They work in conjunction with sealant to provide a lightweight seal and flat protection that significantly improves performance.

If you look at the spoke bed of a low-profile Bontrager rear road wheel (like the Race X Lite or Race Lite), you'll notice that the spokes don't join the rim at the center. Rather, they're shifted slightly toward the non-drive side. Bontrager calls this design feature OSB, or Offset Spoke Bed. And here's why we do it.

There are a lot of charts and graphs, zeros and ones, and spreadsheets behind the inForm line of chamois. Why? Because accurately identifying pressure points on real subjects has enabled us to design a chamois with just the right amount of support in precisely the right places. We call that process "pressure mapping science and technology." Your butt will just say "Ahhhhh."
